ATAL BHOOMI JAL YOJANA
Why in news :Since April 2018, the Central Government has proposed to launch an ambitious 'Atal Bhoomi-Jal Yojna' for improving the ground water conservation and its level in the country.key notes:
A provision of Rs. 6000 crores has been made for this scheme. In this, the share of the World Bank and the Central Government will be 50:50 per cent respectively.
This scheme has been proposed for water scarcity areas in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Under this, 78 districts, 193 blocks and 8350 village panchayats of these territories will be included.
Why need?
As per the previous year's report of the Central Ground Water Board, out of the 6584 ground water blocks in the country, 1034 blocks have been used extensively. It is addressed as a 'dark zone' ie water crisis situation.
According to the data provided by the Ministry of Water Resources, the per capita availability of water in India has decreased from 5177 cubic meter in year 1951 to 1545 cubic meters in 2011. One important reason for this is the lack of proper and effective control over the consumption of water over the annual water supply (supply).
It is important to note that under the National Water Mission, the 11 states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal are the objectives of the work-based water management model. But preparations have been made to prepare.
